Studio Schmal is the studio of visual artist Johanna Schmal, who works across media in drawing, painting, textile art and illustration.
Her work is inspired by nature and its rhythms, by crafts and folk art, by the atmosphere of places and their narrations, by people, their countries and cultural traditions and interweaves these impressions with her inner perceptions and personal stories.
Alongside her own practice Johanna holds and curates art-workshops and -retreats also in collaboration with other international artists. Therefore she sets up a space for muse and inspiration, for creative and intercultural exchange and is committed to the holistic character of the experience.

Studio Schmal ist das Atelier der bildenden Künstlerin Johanna Schmal, die medienübergreifend in den Bereichen Zeichnung, Malerei, Textilkunst und Illustration tätig ist.
Ihre Arbeit ist inspiriert von der Natur und ihren Rhythmen, von atmosphärischen Orten und ihren Erzählungen, von handwerklicher Qualität und Volkskunst, von Menschen, ihren Ländern und kulturellen Traditionen und verwebt diese Eindrücke mit ihrer inneren Wahrnehmung und persönlichen Geschichten.
In Erweiterung ihrer eigenen Praxis leitet und kuratiert Johanna Kunst-Workshops und -Retreats – auch in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen internationalen Künstler/innen. Dabei schafft sie Räume der Muse und Inspiration, des kreativen und interkulturellen Austauschs und legt Wert auf die Ganzheitlichkeit der Erfahrung.
